Saint-Guibert church
Saint-Guibert church in Gembloux
Located in the heart of Gembloux, Saint-Guibert is an emblematic religious building. A former Benedictine abbey church, it was rebuilt between 1762 and 1779 by Laurent-Benoît Dewez after the fire of 1678.
Following the dissolution of the abbey during the French Revolution, the building was purchased by the parishioners as their place of worship. In 1885, the plan changed from a Greek cross to a Latin cross, while retaining the four chapels surrounding the choir, a distinctive architectural feature.
Today, this monument remains a witness to Gemblout's rich heritage, combining history and spirituality. A visit not to be missed!
