Cutlery Museum
In the 18th century,Abbé Eugène Gérard wanted to bring an industry to Gembloux. He focused on cutlery, noticing that workers from Gembloux were going to cutlers in Namur to pick up work for the week to take home. To attract cutlers where labor was already available, he introduced a number of tax and other incentives.
It was a flourishing industry until its decline, largely due to mismanagement. A few vestiges of this past remain: the Depireux workshop in the Grand'Rue, Eternum and SIBEL in the Sauvenière zoning.
Are you a cutlery enthusiast? Don't miss the event of the year: the Cutlery Days.
